About American Foods 

American Foods was founded in 1945 by C.E.Vacalis.  Mr. Vacalis was by his own description a produce peddler working out of his garage. He and His wife Althea grew the business into a full service distributor covering the Alabama, Mississippi and Florida panhandle.

Today the business is still locally owned by Tom Hegler, Jim Stater, John Carpenter, and Butch Owens with John Carpenter and Butch Owens operating the business.  Butch and John have over seventy years in the Food Service Business.  Butch started at American Foods in 1970 and John in 1979.  There have been a lot of changes in the Food Service business Industry over the years but American Foods still operates the old fashion way, one of them being our commitment to "Customer Service"
